AMERICAN
AUTOGYRO, INC. FLIGHT TEST REPORT
AAI,
GBAíS new subsidiary, has extensively flight tested its Stability
Augmentation Modification kit for the RAF2000 aircraft and achieved
all its design objectives. Test pilot James Mayfield says "The
aircraft is now completely stable and safe to fly. We are very pleased
with the significant improvements in all aspects of flight. Itís
a fun aircraft to fly!" AAI is currently in the process of
installing these kits on GBA/AAI Dealer aircraft, assisting with
owner installs and providing gyroplane flight instruction. In addition
to safety and performance kits for existing gyroplanes, AAI will
produce and has accepted orders for itís new enclosed, 2-place SparrowHawk
gyroplane designed for the "kit-built" and upcoming new
FAA "Sport Aircraft" category markets. This new gyroplane
will also be an excellent entry-level air surveillance vehicle for
many law enforcement agencies. Currently in design and development,
deliveries are expected to begin in late summer. For more information,
we invite you to visit the AAI web site by clicking here on "AAI."

HAWK
4 DEMONSTRATED FOR TSA
Phoenix,
AZ Sky Park International Airport security officials along with
members of the Phoenix Police Department, recently evaluated the
use of the Hawk 4 gyroplane as a deterrent to the potential threat
posed by terrorists armed with portable heat seeking missiles to
approaching and departing airliners. Security responsibility for
the surrounding areas and the perimeter of the airport is handled
by the Phoenix PD and is overseen by the TSA. Copies of the positive
report have been provided to officials at the TSA and the Airports
Council International (ICA) of North America, including vice president
Ian Redhead who also recently visited GBA Flight Operations in nearby
Buckeye to see the Hawk 4 demonstrated.
GBAíS
HEAVY LIFT GYRODYNE CONCEPT
GBA
is offering a gyroplane solution to meet the US Armyís need for
a vertical take-off and landing heavy lift transport. The GBA Heavy
Lift Gyrodyne concept is based on the successful flight characteristics
of the Fairey Rotodyne (Please click here on "Rotodyne"
for more information), a 200 mph, VTOL commuter gyrodyne developed
in the 1950's. GBAís proposal would modify a Lockheed Martin C-130
by equipping it with a GBA designed rotor system incorporating rotor-mounted
tip-jets. GBAís concept is in response to a Department of Defense
study contract announced last year to examine different concepts
for meeting the Armyís need for an Advanced Maneuver Transport (AMT).

University, in cooperation with the American Helicopter Museum &
Education Center, the Popular Rotorcraft Association (PRA), the
Cradle of Aviation Museum, the Experimental Aircraft Association
(EAA), and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum hosted
a conference in April entitled From Autogiro to Gyroplane: The
Past, Present and Future of an Aviation Industry. This was the
first ever university conference dealing with this fascinating facet
of aviation history and celebrated the 80th anniversary of the first
flight in Spain by Juan de la Cierva and the 75th anniversary
of the first American flight by the aviation pioneer Harold F. Pitcairn.
GBA Chairman Jay Groen was one of the many presenters. Jay and David
Groen, GBA President & CEO, were among a select group honored
with special awards identifying them as a "Gyroplane Pioneer."
